Noctilucant The first time I listened to this album, the world was cloaked in a deep veil of mysterious fog -- it was perfect! The ominous landscapes went so well with this deeply atmospheric album! Fantastic music, once again, from Hiemis! Favorite track: Confessio.

michaelbully Intense dark ambient with plenty of innovation. Harrowing and disturbing. Really conveys the horror of the sanctimonious self-righteous slaughter of alleged witches, Regularly on my playlist. Difficult to choose a favourite track. Finally went for track 6. Favorite track: Invocatio ad Daemonium.

Malleus Maleficarum, the most famous of all books on witchcraft, was written in 1486 by two Dominican monks. Immediately, and throughout the following three centuries, it became the indispensable manual and the final authority for the Inquisition, for all judges, magistrates and priests, Catholic and Protestant, in the fight against witchcraft in Europe. It covered the powers and practices of witches, their relationships with the devil, and their discovery. The Inquisition, the stake, the torture, mental and physical, of the crusade against witchcraft: all this is known. And behind each of the bloodthirsty acts was this book, both a justification and an instruction manual.

The overall feel here is hushed, almost reverential, and very dark.
